Photo: Diva Suzanne Grzanna on the cover of Volume VI

The Federation of American Musicians, Singers and Performing Artists (FAMSPA) announced this week that Suzanne Grzanna will grace the cover of volume 6 of the World Who's Who in Jazz, Cabaret, Music and Entertainment. "This new volume is a major undertaking" said Carol Lexter, an associate editor. What is so special about this new tome? Lexter said: "First, look at the title: "History of Entertainment Greats From the 1800’s to the Present: Cinema, Music, Divas, Legends" It is self-explanatory. The book contains 1,150 photos and retraces the chronological development of showbiz and music from the 1800s to the present." And how about the cover? Germaine Poitiers, senior editor of the Who's who said: "One more round...every time we come up with a new volume, we try to find the most suitable celebrity or talent -in this case- to grace the cover. It is not easy, you know. And all these showbiz politics in town and hot talks of publicists and artists' agents make our job quite unpleasant and demanding. I am talking about PR firms who are pushing for their clients...they want their stars to be on the cover. Some are obnoxious... they tell you, hey, if you don't put this or that (meaning their stars) on the cover, we will stop advertising on your website. You see what I mean!" So who is going to appear on the cover of the new volume? Lexter said: "We were looking for a talent who blends the glory and nostalgia of the past with contemporary and fresh breeze of today's genre...in other words, an artist who brings to the table, solid traditional musical heritage and innovative modern style. Suzanne Grzanna fits the bill. She is accomplished at so many levels; she is a composer, a singer, a writer, a producer and a pioneer. Besides, she is stunning! Yep! Looks help too. So, she is the one! Read

WORLD WHO'S WHO IN JAZZ, CABARET, MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT: A Tour de Force on an International Scale! A fabulous Book. Rating 5 stars.

Maximillien de Lafayette, author extraordinaire did it again! A formidable book. Should I say an encyclopedia?! A massive 6 volume set exceeding 4,000 pages and incorporating 400 chapters and 30,000 entries...And this impressive work is the World Who's Who in Jazz, Cabaret, Music and Entertainment", 1st edition. Needless to say, this overwhelming accomplishment is the most comprehensive and authoritative book ever written about music and the giants who sing and make music. But there is an other fascinating dimension to this book: A sort of un-chartered musical territory encompassing the biographical history of artists, tips on how and where to book a show, how to deal with venues' owners and the tour de force chapter on the best of the best in the business. It is a documented work and a well crafted chronological analysis of contemporary performing arts. However, there is a juicy and controversial chapter in the Who's Who that might infuriate some entertainers. Especially those who were not listed in that chapter, an "audaciously labeled chapter" by the author as Roster of the Legitimate Cabaret-Jazz Singers in America. But de Lafayette fears no beast and no man as a critic once wrote in the International Herald Daily News. The chapter on the best of the best is equally engaging, entertaining and a coup de grace piece of work. Are you a performer? Do you know how and where to book your show? How to protect your interests, get the best deal and promote your show? Think again. You better read what Maximillien de Lafayette wrote about strategies, techniques you must use . --Cabaret Ville Magazine

WORLD WHO S WHO IN JAZZ, CABARET, MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT. A MONUMENTAL WORK. A GIGANTIC ACCOMPLISHMENT! FROM AUTHORITATIVE ARTICLES TO PARADE OF GLAMOROUS STARS!

Another spectacular masterpiece by entertainment critic and author extraordinaire, Maximillien de Lafayette. It is a gigantic set of 6 volumes exceeding 4,000 pages. An odyssey of the world of showbiz, music, jazz, American standards, and cabaret. And from a different angle, World Who s Who in Jazz, Cabaret, Music and Entertainment becomes a biographic encyclopedia of the who s who in music, the pioneers, the composers, the musicians, the stars, the singers and musical organizations. In brief, it is monumental. Sailing into the immense world of the six volumes, we discover the unexpected, an aspect of biographical work rarely revealed to the public: The advice and tips, the author and his editorial board of 100+ give the readers, the performers and singers. An elaborate chapter on what a singer must know and must do when booking a venue for a live performance illustrates the intensity, the practical value and use of the voluminous set. The World Who s Who in Jazz, Cabaret, Music and Entertainment could be compared to a continuous non-stop symphonic performance by an orchestra of 1,000 musicians from all genres and schools under the baton of an international conductor. Each one brings to the symphony a personal cache and unexpected notes. And it works! Because this heavyweight Who s Who is astronomical. Just imagine what you could find going through 200 chapters in 3 volumes! And the biographical notes! Almost 30,000 entries. The Who s Who is well crafted and divided into several parts, such as, biographies, data and facts, charts and analyses, and resources. In brief, it embraces all facets and aspects of the world of music and those who make music. Most impressive it is. Authoritative? Affirmative. Useful? No questions asked, simply because it is the world s first who s who of music, singers, performers --International Herald Daily News

World Who's Who in Jazz Cabaret Music And Entertainment. The most authoritative book on showbiz and music.

Maximillien de Lafayette new ambitious and impressive project has materialized; a massive encyclopedic set of 4 volumes on divas, jazz, cabaret and the world of entertainment: World Who's Who In Jazz, Music, Cabaret And Entertainment. This is a major undertaking and astonishing accomplishment at the highest level. It encompasses every known aspect, facet and genre of the performing arts and the world of entertainment. The four volumes include 30,000 entries, thousands of biographies, reviews, analyses of the music industry sales, charts and hits, including the career highlights of mega stars and recently discovered talents and rising stars. In November 2006, de Lafayette's "Entertainment Divas Cabaret Jazz Then And Now" became an international best-seller. It seems that divas are a hot topic, nowadays. And the author is cashing big time on it. Why not? We are fond of divas and femmes fatales, especially, when they are brought to life under a new light; the unknown persona of the Diva and the hidden mystique of la femme fatale. And de Lafayette did just that. He knows extremely well the " sacred, the damned and the risqué" flair and cache of those glittering stars. He has been writing about them for twenty years. I thought one volume will suffice. But after I have read two volumes of the set, I realized that two more volumes would shed more light on the subject, especially when 200 additional chapters are added to volume three and volume four. This is an amazing work. Intense, comprehensive and entertaining. Almost everything you need to know about cabaret, jazz, life entertainment and the business of music is explained at length and in-depth. This book is not based on fame and fortune alone, but also on merit. This book brings to you those who are believed to be the best in the business." Highly recommend. Get your copy right away. --Art and Style Magazine

George Evans: My goodness, are there no male vocalists in the cabaret and jazz industries worthy of a cover?

FAMSPA nine published books on Jazz, divas and the series of the WORLD WHO’S WHO IN JAZZ, CABARET, MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT are always the center of a global controversy in North America, and particularly in Europe. And the reason seems clear and logical for a music scholar in Belgium, and an award-winning Jazz singer from Canada. Logical, because only American Jazz female singers appear on the front and back covers of all these books and encyclopedias. George Evans, a highly respected jazz singer in Canada wonders: "My goodness, are there no male vocalists in the cabaret and jazz industries worthy of a cover?" In New York City, a spokesman of the Federation of American Musicians, Singers and Performing Artists (FAMSPA), publishers of the encyclopedias and Jazz books said: "Those ladies who appeared on the covers are something else. They were not chosen because they were Americans, but because they are different, unique and original in their style, persona and career highlights. In a sense, they are the four winds of world entertainment. Each one of them represents a particular era and a distinctive style. They are the perfect formula for the covers. It has nothing to do with gender or nationality.” Read the full article
